The quiet moments I spend reading with my children are often the best part of my day. As the pages turn, we are no longer on the couch. Instead, we are exploring Narnia, playing a game of quidditch at Hogwarts, or figuring out a way to take down “The Trunchbull.” As I read to my children, I am not only expanding and stretching their information, but enlarging their world. Reading sparks new ideas, inspires creativity, and sets children on a path towards life-long learning.

Spending time reading with your children also helps prepare your child for their individual literary journey, by providing them with invaluable skills, tools, and knowledge necessary to be a thriving and successful reader. As a former educator and mother, I cannot advocate for daily reading enough.

Create memories. Go on adventures. Spark creativity. Nurture a budding reader. Learn. Grow. Inspire.

I challenge you to set aside time each day to read with your children. I hand-selected each of these books, and chose based on overall appeal, readability, and ability to captivate young readers. I created the list with elementary school students in mind (K-5), though some titles will appeal to older/younger children as well. Work your way through the list. Re-read old favorites from your childhood or discover new titles with your children. Just read. Read- and watch the world change for your children. Read – and inspire a young mind. Read – and build life-long memories. Read. Read. Read.
